Pacific Institute Senior Fellow and Co-Founder Dr. Peter Gleick Elected to American Academy of Arts & Sciences

Oakland, California — April 19, 2023 — The Pacific Institute is pleased to announce Senior Fellow and Co-Founder Dr. Peter Gleick has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Gleick is a world-renowned expert on water and climate science. At the Pacific Institute, Gleick’s research was among the first to establish a link between water resources and climate change. He developed one of the earliest comprehensive works on water and conflict, and helped define the basic human right to water, which has been utilized by the United Nations . Gleick also developed and advanced the concepts of the “soft path for water” and “peak water.”

“I’m tremendously honored to be elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and I appreciate this recognition of the importance of efforts to tackle our water and climate challenges,” said Gleick.

The American Academy of Arts & Sciences is an honorary society that recognizes accomplished individuals and leaders who work towards addressing the world’s biggest challenges. Membership dates to 1780 and includes notable figures such as Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Margaret Mead, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
